Why did Mystery Science make these Grade 2 updates?
Plant Growth & Interactions unit updates
New Lesson 3: Why do you find flowers and bees together?
- 2-LS2-2. Develop a simple model that mimics the function of an animal in dispersing seeds or pollinating plants.
- Mystery Science partially covers 2-LS2-2 in other lessons within this unit, but we saw an opportunity to increase our coverage with a new lesson specifically focused on animals pollinating plants. This lesson encourages students to notice parts of flowers, like pollen. In the hands-on activity, students develop models of flowers and bees. They use these models to demonstrate how a small, fuzzy bee can transport pollen from flower to flower. They discover that flowers and bees are found together because they both benefit from this interaction.
We’re always listening to reviews, to what’s happening in classrooms, and to what teachers & students need most. With a growth mindset at our core, we continually fine-tune our lessons to reflect strong, research-based practices.
