What changed?
Kindergarten
Plant & Animal Secrets has been split into two units:
1st grade
Plant & Animal Superpowers has been split into two units:
- Animal Superpowers (new lesson on Parent & Offspring Traits)
- Plant Superpowers (new lesson on Plant Traits of Parent & Offspring coming in October)
Spinning Sky has been split into two units:
3rd grade
New unit, Circle of Life
- New lesson on Animal Life Cycles
- New lesson on Plant Life Cycles
- “What's the best way to get rid of mosquitoes?” moved from Animals Through Time to Circle of Life
New lesson on Seasonal Weather Patterns in the Stormy Skies unit
4th grade
New lesson on Sedimentary Rock & Fossils in The Birth of Rocks unit

Do I have to teach the new lessons?
You can continue to teach the lessons as you’ve been doing. For the lessons that moved units, you can find them in their new units or access the old units at these links:
- Kindergarten: Plant & Animal Secrets
- 1st grade: Plant & Animal Superpowers
- 1st grade: Spinning Sky
- 3rd grade: Animals Through Time (“What’s the best way to get rid of mosquitoes?” is now in the new Circle of Life unit)
Since the new lessons increase Mystery Science standards coverage, we encourage you to check them out!
Are the old units still available?
Yes, you can access the old units at these links:
- Kindergarten: Plant & Animal Secrets

- 3rd grade: Animals Through Time (“What’s the best way to get rid of mosquitoes?” is now in the new Circle of Life unit)
The Anchor Layer is no longer visible in the old Plant & Animal Superpowers unit. You can now find it in the new Animal Superpowers unit. The content remains the same.
The Anchor Layer is no longer visible in the old Spinning Sky unit. You can now find it in the Sun & Shadows unit. The content remains the same.
There is also a new Anchor Layer in the Moon & Stars unit!
What supplies do I need to teach the new lessons?
The Supply Calculator is updated to include the supplies for new lessons as they are released. Choose your grade, enter the number of students, and choose “View: By Lesson.”
What happens if I have a Mystery Pack from 2021-22 or before?
The lessons contained in your Mystery Pack will remain online!
While they may be reorganized or placed in a different unit, you can still access these lessons by searching for them in the search bar at the top of the home page after you log in.
You can use the Supply Calculator to see which supplies you’ll need to supplement for these new lessons.
Do the 2022-23 Mystery Packs contain supplies for these new lessons?
Supplies for all the new lessons EXCEPT the following are included in the 2022-23 Mystery Packs:
- 3rd grade Circle of Life unit, “How is your life like an alligator’s life?”
- 3rd grade Circle of Life unit, “Why are there so many different kinds of flowers?”
- 3rd grade Stormy Skies unit, “Where’s the best place to build a snow fort?”
- 4th grade The Birth of Rocks unit, “What did your town look like 100 million years ago?”

Is there an Anchor Layer for each new unit?
- The 3rd grade Anchor Layer for Circle of Life will be available by September 2022.
- The 1st grade Anchor Layers will be completed during summer and fall 2022.
- The Kindergarten Anchor Layers will be created during the 2022-23 school year.
