The Mystery Guides Team is a group of engaging, knowledgeable, curious professionals in charge of guiding kids through exciting explorations. They use their expertise to answer questions from curious kids in our periodic mini-lessons and to take students on longer, hands-on scientific journeys in our K-5 full-lessons. Until now, Doug was our only regular expert guide. The new team welcomes three new members.
Why expand the team?
We have already featured guest experts on some of our mini-lessons in the past. We have invited experts on insects, cartoon illustration, and robotics, to name a few.
For while, Mystery Science and Doug himself, have wanted to expand the team to have more regular new faces, not just guest appearances.
Exploring science can be even more fun when you have a team that brings different perspectives, experiences, and expertise to the table.
Is Mystery Science going to be different?
Mystery Science continues to have the same goals of reaching more kids and showing them how amazing science is. We will continue offering incredible content created by experts that is easy to use by teachers everywhere. The key difference is that students will now be able to learn from a team of experts, who will be appearing regularly in our weekly mini-lessons, and who will also contribute their expertise, stories, and perspectives to future K-5 science lessons we’re working on.
Who are the experts that are joining Doug?
The expert guides joining Doug are Danni Washington, Esther Ikoro, and Jay Flores.
Danni has a background in ocean science and has been featured in educational and science programs for over a decade. She’s not only incredibly knowledgeable about a wide range of topics, but she’s also sincerely passionate about helping young people understand and appreciate the extraordinary natural world we live in, including finding new ways to help young people cherish it. |

Esther is an avid naturalist and outdoor enthusiast, who is passionate about helping others get outside. As a content creator, she loves finding and sharing stories about the surprising things we encounter in the natural world. Her stories artfully blend nature and science with her unique, charming style of humor. |

Jay has a background in engineering, and is passionate about helping others appreciate the many connections between science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)! A major theme of Jay’s work is that, by asking questions and experimenting to find answers, each of us has the capacity to solve problems that are personally meaningful. |
