This lesson is part of the new 4th grade unit, "Animal & Plant Adaptations"
Why did we develop this lesson?
This lesson expands coverage of 4-LS1-1 to encompass the structures and functions of plants. Specifically, this lesson focuses on the external structures of trees.
In the hands-on activity, students collect evidence from models and then use that evidence to construct an argument about which trees are most likely to survive in a particular environment. Students apply these learnings more broadly to other types of trees with particular adaptations, both external and internal, that enable them to survive in specialized environments.
