Mystery Science Pacing Guides are here to help with your long-term planning this school year! These new pacing guides are designed to be editable, so you can use them to create your year-long scope & sequence.
Pacing Guides are available for each grade level and provide:
- An overview of all Mystery Science units
- Clear alignment of each lesson with the 3-dimensions of the NGSS
- Suggested lesson breakdowns into 20–30-minute blocks for K-1 and 30–40-minute blocks for grades 2-5.
- Time blocks for assessments, extensions, and the Anchor Layer
Our Pacing Guides also highlight how each Mystery Science lesson follows the 5E instructional model for inquiry-based science teaching.
Where can I find the Pacing Guides?
Pacing Guides are available on each NGSS unit page in the Unit Resources section. Open any unit, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click “Pacing Guide.”
Clicking on the link will allow you to create a copy of the document in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel so you can customize it to make science teaching work for your schedule!
You can also find a link to the Pacing Guides on our Getting Started page. Use the drop down in the top right corner of the page to select your grade, then click the Pacing Guides link under Standards & Pedagogy.
